FAQ about waste water and sewage

What can I throw in the toilet?

The toilet is only for toilet paper. Sanitary napkins, condoms, cotton swabs, nappies, disposable washcloths and other such items must be thrown in the waste bin. If you flush them down the toilet, they can clog and damage the sewage system.

My home smells like sewage - what do I do?

If it smells of sewage indoors, you need to locate the smell. Start by opening the taps and flush the toilet, so you are sure that there is water in the water traps. If you cannot solve the problem yourself, contact a professional.

What do I do if my sewer is blocked?

If your sewer is blocked, you can lift the cover of your outdoor well if there is water in it. The watershed well is often the well on your property that is closest to the watershed.

If the well is full of water, the problem is probably in our part of the sewer, and then you need to contact us. If it is empty, then it is your private part of the sewer that is blocked.

Contact an authorized plumber who can solve the problem.

Contact us if you don’t know whether the clog is in the private or in the public part of the sewer.

How often should I clean the sewer?

You only need to clean the sewer if it is blocked.

Where do I report rats?

If you want to report rats in the sewer system or on your property, you must contact Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality.

What do you do to avoid floodings?

We maintain and expand the sewer network to make it ready for the increased rain volumes expected in the future. In some places we separate rainwater from sewage to minimize the risk of overloading the general sewage system.
