Waste

In Lyngby-Taarbæk Kommune we have several waste solutions to make sure we recycle waste.

Some solutions depend on whether you live in a villa or an apartment. It can also depend on if it is a private terraced house or a terraced house in a housing association.
If you are in doubt about the solutions in your housing association, you can ask the person responsible for waste management for more information. This could be e.g. a janitor or a landlord.

Why should I sort my waste?

The average person produces several kilograms of waste per day. In a year that equals nearly a ton of waste. Therefore, it is extremely important to recycle as much as possible. It costs a lot of resources, energy, time, and effort to create new products continually, especially when they could be reused instead.

What kinds of waste are we sorting in Lyngby-Taarbæk?

We have several solutions for different waste types in order to recycle as much as possible.

  • Food waste (madaffald)
  • Residual waste (restaffald)
  • Paper (papir)
  • Plastic (plastik)
  • Food and beverage cartons (mad- & drikkekartoner)
  • Garden waste (haveaffald).
  • Metal (metal)
  • Glass (glas)
  • Cardboard (pap)
  • Hazardous waste (farligt affald)
  • Small electronics (småt elektronik)
  • Bulky waste (storskrald)
  • Textile waste (tekstil)

Each type of waste needs to be sorted differently and disposed of in a certain way, depending on where you live.

In this guide you can see the different types of waste (in Danish only)

What is hazardous waste?

Hazardous waste can pollute nature and groundwater, and therefore it is important that you hand it over to us - either by sorting it at home or by handing it in at the recycling station.

How do I hand over hazardous waste?

If you live in a villa, you must place the red box for hazardous waste (miljøboksen) on top of your container for food/leftovers when you want to hand it in. The box must weigh a maximum of 10 kg. In order for us to take the box with us, you need to write your name and address on the sticker on the box. If you do not have a box for hazardous waste, you can contact us and we will deliver one to you.

If you live in a housing association, the solutions can vary. If you are unsure what the scheme is at your housing association, ask the person responsible for waste management for more information, e.g. the janitor or a landlord.

Pack the waste in original packaging or, if necessary, in freezer bags or jam jars with labels describing the contents. Put the lid on the container and place them upright. Close the box carefully so that children cannot get to the waste.

What is never allowed in the box for hazardous waste?

  • Medicine and needles (Hand in at the pharmacy)
  • Self-igniting rags and liquids (wet the rags and put them in a jar with a tight-fitting lid and hand them in at the recycling station)
  • Pressure bottles (At the recycling station)
  • Pointed and sharp objects (At the recycling station)
  • Fireworks (At the recycling station)
  • Illegal fireworks (contact the police)
  • Explosives (contact the police)
